The competition was fierce for the entire weekend and the talent level was significantly higher than past years. The 13 and 15U Division ll teams closely resembled the talent level of Division l teams of recent past. The following teams earned bids to the AAU National Championship Tournaments that will be played throughout the country this coming summer.

All of the results have not been reported as yet but the news thus far is really impressive. Long Island Lightning continues to earn its place as one of the most competitive AAU organizations in the country.

The Samburu won the West Division Championship on May 1st. Samburu is led by Coach Jamel Davis who has now won three Adult League Championships in the past three years. There is no one in Island Garden history who has won more Adult League games than Coach Jamel! There is also no one who is more dedicated than Coach Jamel!!!!! We previously reported that Coach Tony was the leader of Samburu. Actually, Coach Tony is the head of Masai who lost to Team Rakeman in the finals of the EAST Division on May 6th. Coach Tony has been with Island Garden for many years and also is a tremendous person who devotes countless hours in helping players of all ages. The finals in the East Division was a terrific and closely contested contest.

We thank all the players who competed throughout the fall and winter months at Island Garden. Our league has grown and has become increasinlgly competitive at both levels.

Spring League is now settling in and all is progressing well over the past few days. We ask that coaches submit their rosters and any outstanding registration fee at their next game.

STATUS REPORT ---- AS OF MAY 8TH, WE HAVE RECEIVED A VERY LIMITED RESPONSE TO THE SPRING AAU ADULT TOURNAMENT OFFERING. WE WILL DELAY THE START FOR ONE WEEK AND WILL MAKE A DECISION AS TO WHETHER OR NOT TO PROCEED BY MAY 12TH.

For the first time, we will be hosting an Adult AAU Tournament during the months of May and June. It will be comprised of a four game round robin pool with the top two teams advancing to a single elimination championship bracket.

We are proud to announce a terrific schedule of summer camps for the 2008 season and  excited  to introduce several new programs and improvements. One such improvement will be the availability of transportation to and from the Island Garden. We also very pleased to have Tim Cluess, Bob Paul and Tim Capstraw returning as our Camp Directors.

2008 will be the biggest year ever for tournaments hosted by Long Island Lightning. The tournaments are as follows:

GIRLS SPRING INVITATIONAL - Ages 9U - 14U > April 11-13

GIRLS SUMMER INVITATIONAL - AGES 9U - 14U > May 30- June 1

BOYS INVITATIONAL  - AGES 9U - 15U > June 6-8
