2009-2010 ISLAND GARDEN SUPER LEAGUE Dedicated to the Memory of John Ruggiero Now in our sixteenth season, the Island Garden Super League has evolved into one of the most successful youth basketball leagues in the New York Metropolitan area. Super League is designed for everyone. There are divisions for boys and girls ranging from the third to the twelfth grade. Wherever possible, each grade is broken down into three ability levels in order to foster equal competition. It is our goal to provide an excellent experience for every team regardless of its final winning percentage. We make every effort to meet your scheduling requests so that your participation does not conflict with other leagues. SUPER LEAGUE HIGHLIGHTS -Most games are played at the Island Garden which is the premier basketball facility in the New York Metropolitan area. You do not have to provide a home facility in order to participate in the Island Garden Super League. -You choose the number of games which you will play. Your team can play 6, 12, 18 or 24 games. -We respect your schedules from other leagues so that you do not have to choose one over another. You submit your CYO, PAL, etc. schedule in a timely manner and we insure that there will be no conflict. -A Super League Representative is always present at games in the event that an issue must be addressed. Island Garden personnel also are available at all times to deal with scheduling. -Referees are rated by both league administrators and coaches. Assignments are distributed based on those ratings and our observations. -The Island Garden website (www.islandgarden.com) is used to publicize schedules, game results, standings, highlights, changes and open games. We will rely almost exclusively on the Internet and on our website (www.islandgarden.com) to administer Super League this year. All schedules are published on the Internet as well as game and opponent changes. We also utilize a system that automatically and immediately updates standings. Coaches and/or team administrators must be familiar with communicating via the Internet and email. -We will immediately text message and email coaches all game changes. -We will utilize AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) membership and insurance for any team that does not have their own coverage. In addition to providing outstanding coverage, this registration and insurance will provide coverage for your players in every league and AAU tournament through August 31, 2010. This will also save you money if you play AAU during the spring. See our AAU information sheet for further details. -Coaches will receive emails requesting their feedback on officials, sportsmanship reports and court conditions. -The ROCK has been designated the official game ball for Super League and Island Garden. Each team will receive one ball as part of their membership for use in all Super League games. -We will be introducing a chat room/coaches forum that will give coaches a way to communicate with each other and with league administrators. We anticipate that coaches arrange scrimmages, share practice space, exchange ideas on strategies and offer suggestions for improvements to Super League administrators. Please note, however, that only Super League Administrators can cancel or change games. -Referees will be required to file a report with league officials whenever a technical foul is assessed on a player, coach or spectator. In the event of an ejection, league administrators will decide if a suspension is warranted based on the circumstances of the situation. |
