Facts about the Island Garden:Opened October 24, 1998.53,000 square foot facility that is designed to host three basketball games, as well as individual basketball and baseball instruction simultaneously.Has been used by the Knicks, Liberty and NCAA men's tournament as their practice site.Home of the John Ruggiero/Chase Bank Super League that currently has 305 teams for boys & girls ranging from 3rd through 12th grade.Over 120 games are played at Island Garden on a weekly basis.Home of the Long Island Lightning AAU Club that has 80 boys & girls teams.Hosts various AAU tournaments every weekend during the spring.Island Garden will hold 10 weeks of summer camps and a summer league consisting of over 100 teams.During the fall, over 100 high school teams participate in our pre-season league.History of the Island Garden:For several years, Jim Fox dreamed of building a facility that would be the Mecca of youth basketball on Long Island. Jim had been heavily involved in coaching and administering various youth leagues on a voluntary basis and recognized the demand for facilities which was scarce and often limited to inadequate church auditoriums. Kids and their parents wanted to play more, yet there were not many places that were available.
Today, IGB will run over 120 games on a weekly basis. Island Garden provides the most modern, highest quality facility for players of all ages. It is a place where parents and children come to enjoy the game of basketball.
